No-exam life insurance
Eligibility for fast-track underwriting, the process behind it, and what happens if you don't qualify.
A number of major carriers now provide accelerated underwriting: if you're in the right age and amount range, they make approval decisions using your application, medication history, driving records, and similar information, bypassing the paramedical exam step. Determinations can arrive within hours. The quote results here note for each product whether an exam is required, possible, or not expected.
What it changes
Accelerated approval doesn't bypass underwriting—it just skips the exam. Your responses are checked, and if a policy is issued based on false information, the carrier can challenge it within the first 24 months. If the carrier's records uncover concerns, they may request an exam or lab tests anyway, and you'll have the option to proceed or stop.
Who tends to qualify
Generally, those under age 60 who want coverage amounts within the carrier's accelerated underwriting cap, with no serious past medical issues and no tobacco for a year or longer, qualify. Some carriers will use recent blood work from a doctor visit instead of ordering their own exam.
Should an exam be required, expect a 20 to 30 minute appointment with a paramedical professional at your San Leandro home or workplace at no cost. For people in good health, the results frequently lead to a better rate class, so the exam often works in your favor.
