San Leandro highlight
Proximity to San Francisco Bay
San Leandro sits on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay, the second-largest estuary on the Pacific coast and the geographic center of the Bay Area's seven-million-person region.

San Francisco Bay is a tidal estuary covering between 400 and 1,600 square miles depending on which sub-bays and surrounding wetlands are included. The estuary drains water from approximately 40 percent of California through the Sacramento, San Joaquin, and other major rivers, and connects to the Pacific Ocean through the Golden Gate. San Leandro's position on the bay's eastern shore places the city at the center of a region that is the Pacific coast's second-largest estuary and home to approximately seven million residents.
The bay's waters support the region's working waterfronts, shipping terminals, and the millions of families whose livelihoods depend on the industries clustered around it. From the residential neighborhoods just inland to the commercial piers and industrial zones, San Leandro sits in that network, sharing the bay's rhythms and the opportunities that water access has always provided.
Life and livelihood in a place shaped by a great estuary are intertwined with the water itself. When a family depends on work tied to the bay, the water, or the industries around them, having coverage in place—enough to cover the house, the debts, the children's needs—is how that dependence becomes a plan rather than a worry.
